Eben Alexander, M.D., has been an academic neurosurgeon for the last 25 years. He has worked for 15 years at the Brigham and Women’s and the Children’s Hospitals and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Alexander is considered a scientist.

Scientists have argued for many years that near death experiences that many people say they have experienced are impossible. Before Eben Alexander has his own near death experience, he felt and his educated opinion was that these experiences were fantasies produced by brains under severe stress.

Dr. Alexander’s brain was attacked by a rare illness. A part of his brain shut down completely leaving him in a coma for seven days. Alexander during the coma journeyed beyond the world and he encountered an angelic being. Alexander declares that the being “guided him into the deepest realms of super-physical existence. In the realm, he met and spoke with the divine source of the universe itself.

Before the encounter, Alexander had no belief in God or the soul. He was a confirmed scientist. Now, Alexander is a doctor who believes that health can be achieved only when we realize that God and the soul are real and that death is not the end of our personal existence but only a transition.

This is an amazing books. I read the book during the time when I was greatly grieving the loss of my son and husband. It gave me hope.
