The author, Marcus Luttrell, of Lone Survivor gives an eyewitness account of Operation Redwing and the lost heroes of Seal Team 10. In the front of the book a dedication by Marcus Luttrell reads; “This book is dedicated to the memory of Murph, Axe, and Danny Boy, Kristensen, Shane, James, Senior, Jeff, Jacques, Taylor and Mac. These were the eleven men of Alfa and Echo Platoons who fought and died in the mountains of Afghanistan trying to save my life, and with whom I was honored to serve my country. There is no waking hour when I do not remember them all with the deepest affection and the most profound, heartbreaking sadness.”
In the Prologue of Lone Survivor, Luttrell writes “I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nations expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight.”
Lone Survivor is an account of fire team leader Marcus Luttrell and three other United States Navy seals who on June 5, 2005 went on a mission to capture or kill an al Qaeda Leader. In less than 24 hours Luttrell was the only remaining seal on the mission who remained alive. It was the largest loss of life in Navy Seal History. Marcus Luttrell makes an amazing tribute to his teammates who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Marcus Luttrell joined the Navy in 1999. In 2002 Luttrell became a combat trained Seal. He was awarded the Navy Cross for combat heroism in 2006.
This book makes you proud to be an American. Truly inspiring! God Bless America and may we as a people live like we deserve what these men did for us.
