Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker is a historical novel about the private lives of Abraham and Mary Lincoln. The view of the Lincoln’s life is through the eyes of the first lady’s trusted friend and her dressmaker, Elizabeth Keckley.
Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker is written in a lifetime that spans a century and witnessed the most momentous events in American History. Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was born a slave. Keckley was a gifted seamstress who earned her freedom by her skill of a needle. She became friends and was devoted to Mary Lincoln. Keckley knew Mrs. Lincoln from the time she lived in the White House until the end of Mrs. Lincoln’s days.
Wonderful historical novel. The characters just grasp the reader up to the point where it is impossible to put the book down. The reader of Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker feels drawn into the horrific time period this book takes place in. I am quilter and I love history. The book is truly amazing!
